The city comes under the list of earliest city associated with the independence struggle, The Jhansi Fort, Built in 1613 by the Maharaja Bir Singh Deo. The fort clearly state about the mass bloodshed that takes place within its walls in order to occupy it by the British. At that time where Lakshmi Bai mounted a horse, with her son tied to her back and jumped to her death.
