Assam, the mystic land of plains with green rolling hills and dense forests, is the gateway to the northeast part of India. The mighty roaring Brahmaputra River has its origin near Mansarovar Lake and Mount Kailash, is prayed by four religions (Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bonpas). Brahmaputra River flows through Tibet, Assam, and Bangladesh. Assam, a rich land of flora and fauna, beautiful rivers and blue hills, is renowned for its Tea Plantation.
The Brahmaputra River is the only river in the world from which you can see 7400meters high snow-covered mountains of Himalayas. Apart from the Zambezi River of Africa, it is the only river, from which boat, elephant and jeep safaris are conducted. The visit to the ancient palaces, monasteries, temples, tribal villages and tea estates gives a great Cultures experiences.
Day 1 Arrive Jorhat - Neamati Ghat - MV Mahabaahu - Sail
Upon your arrival at Jorhat Airport, Our representative will be there for your welcome. He will assist while you head towards Neamati Ghat to board the MV Mahabaahu, with packed lunch.
Gather on the open deck and enjoy your first sail for a fleeting sight of the Gangetic Dolphins.
The evening starts with a detailed talk on ‘Sibsagar and the Ahom Civilization'.
Soon the MV Mahabaahu drops anchor, and we will proceed for the ‘Welcome Dinner'.
Day 2 Neamati Ghat - Sibsagar - Tea Estate & Home-Hosted Lunch
After an early breakfast, we start our day-excursion to Sibsagar, the ancient city and capital of the Tai-speaking Ahoms who came in the 13th Century AD to the area from the north-east and were essential of Tibeto-Burman origin.
Sibsagar means 'the ocean of Lord Shiva'. It is built around a huge man-made water tank ordered by the Ahom Queen.
The Shiva Dol, constructed in the year 1734 is believed to be the highest Shiva temple in India. We visit the Talatal or Kareng Ghar and Rang Ghar. Kareng Ghar is the palace of the Ahom Kings. Rang Ghar is an amphitheater, a place of entertainment or important meetings for the Royals and their guests.
Thereafter, a drive to a Tea Estate for a relaxed afternoon. Enjoy a traditional Assamese lunch with the Tea-estate family who has been involved in the tea business over a period of a century. As we sip our beverages, explore the lawns and proceed to indulge in traditional Assamese cuisine.
Return back to MV Mahabaahu by sunset. Enjoy a relaxed evening in the Soma lounge before proceeding for the mouth-watering dinner.
Day 3 Majuli Visit - Mishing Village
Start the day with Yoga or go for a walk along the swamps to catch a sight of owls, Orioles, yellow-footed green pigeons, changeable hawk eagles, adjutant storks, quails, seagulls hunting with the dolphins and pied kingfishers, swallows and martins diving to fish.
After a delicious breakfast, sail towards the Mishing village and Majuli. Majuli is a cosmos of Assamese culture where many philosophies co-exist.
Enjoy a talk on 'Majuli' the seat of Vaishnav culture. Later on, set off in our tenders to the Mishing Village.
We get on the tenders and arrive on the mainland. The drive takes us to a scenic corner of a Satra for an interesting cultural performance by Satriya Singers and Dancers.Later on, drive towards Kamlabari Satra to witness the Vaishnavite priests dancing on the rhythm of cymbals, drums and chanting in the temple premise.
The Mishings live on the bank of the river in 'Chang Ghar', houses with the raised platform. All Mishing women are expert weavers. Their indoor life revolves around the kitchen area where the family can get together.
While you enjoy the talk on ‘Assam, its geographical location, and importance', MV Mahabaahu will head towards Dhansiri Mukh, the meeting point of Bhramaputra river and Dhansiri river.
Spend your evening under the stars on a deserted island. Proceed to the delicious dinner waiting for you.
Day 4 Dhansiri Boat Safari
This morning, MV Mahabaahu will sail early towards the Eastern Range of Kaziranga for Boat Safari. Enjoy breakfast and have a talk on ‘The River Brahmaputra and the life that exists alongside'.
We will proceed for the safari in our tenders for the next two hours. One can see roof turtles on driftwood, elephants, wild buffaloes, rhinos, water lizards, otters, darters, pied kingfishers, white-throated kingfishers, serpent eagles and much more.
The sightings are always determined by the weather conditions.
Return for the lunch.
At evening, enjoy the Chef's Cooking demonstration. Later on, enjoy the talk on ‘Tea, Silk, and Jute in Assam.'
An evening on a deserted island and a bonfire are always unusual. Enjoy the delicious dinner on MV Mahabaahu.
NOTE: (Bonfire may be avoided if a suitable sandbank cannot be found or if we experience inclement weather conditions).
Day 5 Weavers' Village At Bishwanath Ghat - Tea Estate & Jute Mill Visit
Rise very early today. Have a warm cup of tea with some snacks. Enjoy the talk on 'Wildlife in Kaziranga and India'.
We will reach the shores of Bishwanath Ghat. Visit the Shiva Dol in reverence of Lord Shiva. Enjoy a walk through the Weavers' village.
We will sail on for a couple of hours. Enjoy a relaxed lunch and reach Silghat.
Later, we will take a short drive to Kaliabore Tea Estate. Kaliabore Tea Estate is a vast expanse of an undulating estate with tea bushes. Watch the tribal women picking tea leaves. Proceed to the Tea Factory, to see the process of finally producing the Assam Tea.
NOTE : (The Tea Factory is not operational from mid-December to mid-February)
We return to where the ship is anchored. Close to it, visit Co-Operative Jute Mill. This Jute Mill is an interesting place to understand how the Jute fiber takes the form of very eco-friendly gunny bags.
Day 6 Kaziranga National Park – Sail
Rise very early today. Have a warm cup of tea with some snacks. Later on, drive towards the Kaziranga National Park. Kaziranga National Park is home to about 180 different mammals including Asiatic wild buffaloes, deer, tiger, wild elephants and a rich variety of birds. But the most prized inhabitant of Kaziranga National Park is greater One-Horned Indian Rhinoceros.
Reach the Kohora Mihimukh range of the National Park and be ready to start your morning adventure. Elephant-back safari is a once-in-a-lifetime experience where we will search for the rhinoceros, tigers, swamp deer, hog deer, a large number of very interesting birds and much more.
Have breakfast at a resort in Kaziranga. After that, drive towards Bagori, the Western Range of Kaziranga. Get into the Open Jeeps for some more wildlife adventure with an extensive coverage of this magnificent park.
Return back to MV Mahabaahu for a leisurely lunch and a relaxed afternoon.
NOTE: (Kaziranga National Park is closed in May and October Month. During these two months, we will do a Jeep Safari on the outskirts of Kaziranga National Park. As Elephant safari is not possible, you can go for Elephant Joyride. We have an additional Boat Safari in a very picturesque area at the confluence of Brahmaputra and Diphlu River.)
Return to the ship to enjoy an evening on a deserted island. Enjoy a talk on ‘Kamakhya and the Occult and Peacock Island'. Later on, be ready for the traditional Assamese theme dinner.
Day 7 A Village Visit - Full Day Sail – Peacock Island
Wake up at morning, enjoy Yoga on the deck for an hour and move on to breakfast, while MV Mahabaahu heads on through the hills towards an island. This island is predominantly occupied by a Bangla speaking Muslims, who are involved in extensive farming.
After a visit to this village, return to the ship for Lunch and sail towards Peacock Island that is home to some Golden Langurs.
Later, we will drive towards Pandu Port where a Farewell Dinner ‘Alvida Bhoj' awaits us.
Day 8 Guwahati - Kamakhya Temple – Departure
After a relaxed breakfast, head towards to the Kamakhya Temple, with packed lunch. Kamakhya Temple is devoted to the Eternal Feminine, Kama Khya - the goddess of desire. Arrive at the Jorhat Airport with a packed lunch at Guwahati and bid adieu to the land of Kamakhya.
